Loudmouth formed in late 1999 and took their name from the Ramones song, Loudmouth. The band was formed by Mick and Dave Jones, sons of Jammy, the bass player from 70's punk band The Rebels. They had been into music from a very young age. Their first band was the Nirvana influenced Evenflow, back in 1993, but they hadn't really done much as a group when the band split in 1995. Mick however, had been playing with a few local punk tribute bands, namely 1977 (on bass), Ramona (on drums), and later, The Pits (on guitar). More recently Mick has toured Spain, England, Italy, Poland, Germany and Switzerland playing guitar for the innovators of OI! The Angelic Upstarts.
The band has a wide range of musical influences, which is evedent in their own music, including, Sex Pistols, NoFX, The Specials, Rancid, Green Day, The Clash, Nirvana, Skatalites, Buzzcocks, Toots and the Maytals & Operation Ivy to name a few.
The orignal Loudmouth line up had included Duggy Giro (on guitar) and ex- 'Johnny and the Cat Killers' drummer, Droy. Droy was replaced by ex- 'mosquito' drummer, Andy in November 2000 and Duggy departed from the band in January 2002. They then recruited a new bass player, Willis, and Dave, formally bass switched to guitar. The orignal line up recorded two six track demo E.P's, 'Useless Generation' and 'Idiot Army' which they sold at gigs. The track, 'Friends Like You' from 'Idiot Army' was included on a NSF, BMX video in 2001.
Numerous gigs financed the recording of 'All Tied Up', the third six track demo, in November 2002. Two of the tracks, 'Rock Bottom' and 'One Wasted Year', appeared on the first 'Punk in Sunderland' compelation album.
Loudmouth have played with the likes of Red Alert, TV Smith, The Damned and UK Subs many times and in April 2003 played an all day punk festival at the Manor Quay, Sunderland featuring those bands as well as Dead Kennedys & Vice Squad. Many other great bands have had Loudmouth entertaining their audiences, including, 999, Lurkers, Menace, Vibrators, Generators, Angelic Upstarts, Red London, Cockney Rejects and Anti Nowhere League. All performances received rave reviews and a strong fan base.
The band have recorded a cover of 'Crash Course' for the UK Subs tribute album, 'A Brand New Rage' which has recently been released in Belgium.
Lately Loudmouth won 'Battle of the Bands' in their home town of Sunderland. The cash prize was wisely put towards recording their first single, 'Friends Like You', produced by Fred Purser who has worked with artists such as Leather Face and Toy Dolls. The track, 'Useless Generation' that appears on the single is on the, soon to be released, 'Punk In Sunderland 2'. The band are currently looking for a suitable label or distribution deal for the release their single which fans are eagerly awaiting.
Tommy Air, producer from the Music TV Channel Scuzz, has shown great interest in the band and is working with them to produce a video to accompany the single.
